What is so important about school rankings?

Have you noticed that a lot of people ask about school rankings and statistics related to a city or town they are considering buying real estate? You might ask, hey I don’t have any kids why should I care about the school system? Well, the short answer is resale value. Even if you never plan on having kids, you should still consider the school system if you want to sell your home in the future because buyers with school aged children will care about the school system.

Greatschools.org is my favorite website for researching public and private schools. The website provides school ratings based on a simple 1 to 10 scale as well as average test scores, school statistics, and an easy school to school comparison tool. Not only that, the information is free.

So before you decide to buy real estate in New England, consider researching the schools of your desired locations to take into account resale value even if you don’t have kids.
